A Tour Around Natutu, Native Fijian Village

We finally arrived here ...after more than 40 minutes drive..(many times stopping for snapping photos).. felt so far away eventhough it's less than 10km from town.

View of some of their houses from outside

Some villagers resting under the tree..part of their lifestyle..

Fijian style - tie, shirt and skirt

Our tour guide Mr Viliame with Mr. Aidan

A boat lying idle..indicating that fishing is also part of their activities.

We walked pass by the Church..didn't go inside..

Lali, a traditional equipment used to call the villagers for meeting or prayer in the church..made from woods.

A man beating the Lali to call the villagers for church meeting..

Graveyard of their previous chief, buried here...

The community hall for the village

A group of Fijian women sitting together, resting after finishing the 'gotong royong' session.. they also cooked for the villagers.

Aidan with his new friends..luckily Aidan's hair straight..heheh, if not...

While women sitting inside the hall after 'gotong royong', the men resting under the trees.

A small river connected to the sea...some of them fishermen..

Traditional house called ,bure,...roof from grass, walls from woods..

The antic and almost forgotten..traditional house made from dried grass tied together with mangrove vines..(purely grass)..able to protect from rain and hot sun..can last up to 10 years..

Another traditional house.........100% made from grass.roof and walls

Their sitting hut, damaged by the flood in the beginning of the year...

Looks like a family  is getting ready to go to somewhere..with their bag packed..

It's getting dark, we left the village half an hour before 7.00pm..

We had a good time..good tour around the village..new experience for me which i always look forward to it (to see the native people's land). All the villagers were very friendly.. happy go lucky and easy to talk to..just speak English with them..most of them know eventhough they stay in a very rural area. Don't forget to say Bula (hello) when you meet them and Vinaka (thank u )for their favor..
...Moce ( goodbye) Natutu village

A Trip to Fijian Village - Part 2

Kita dah separuh jalan untuk sampai ke kampung, jalan berikutnya menuju kekawasan yang dekat dengan laut atau pantai. Jom kita layan gambar, jalan2 lagi dalam kampung mereka.

See how they've planted sweet potato, cassavas and bananas
Pokok Bakau or Mangrove, the sign that we are somewhere near to beach

Wooden bridge, just like the normal bridge we used to see in Malaysia

A fijian man and his son approaching the bridge..don't be frighten, just say BULA or hello they'll be very happy

from different angle

Very old mangrove tree

Almost there. we are going to Natutu Village

4 Fijian boys welcomed us.. so happy when we took their photo.

Dalam 300km dihadapan adalah perkampungan yang hendak dituju. Fijians peopla sangatlah friendly and baik hati..seperti kita jugak mereka cukup gembira sekiranya diberi sapaan cukuplah setakat mengucapkan BULA atau Hello maksudnya.. adat masuk tempat orang mestilah menghormati mereka. Mereka ni walapun asli namun majoriti pandai berbahasa inggeris, ada jugak yang tahu berbahasa hindi. Ini adalah kerana seperti kita jugak mereka sebelum merdeka pun pernah dijajah British. Banyak gambar2 dikampung yang hendak dikongsikan so inshaallah nanti kita tgk tayangannya esok ker....

Buah Asam Jawa Diluar Pagar, Ambil Galah Tolong Jolokkan

Semalam pergi ke hospital untuk cuba membuat first appointment, namun tak dapat sebab wrong day, hari khamis katanya baru boleh book appointment. Kami parking keta ditempat parking dibawah pokok, kemudian bila tengok betul-betul baru perasan rupanya pokok asam jawa. Lebat sangat buahnya.

Tak boleh tengok buah asam jawa nie, kecur liur jawabnya hehe..cicah garam makan masam2 gitu pun sedap...makan colek pun sedap, jeruk asam jawa pun sedap. Nampkanya kena belajar buat jeruk nie...

Beberapa pokok yang besar, semuanya berbuah lebat. Abuaidan kata orang awam ambik jer buah nie jolok2 gitu sebab hak awam kot. Bila suruh dia ambikkan mcm tak setuju lak..(mungkin malu kot nak jolok buah2 kat tempat terbuka orang nampak, bukan cara dia gitu..). Kat sini mereka gunakan asam jawa banyak sangat dalam masakan terutama indian..mesti ada asam jawa kat umah. Lagi satu mereka suka buat chutney atau sambal yang mereka panggil Emely Chutney (emely tuh asam jawalah). Agaknya saja pokok nie ditanam diluar kawasan spital nak menggoda pompuan2 mengandung yg dtg check-up...hohoho

Since tak dapat nak ambil galah nak jolok buah asam jawa nie nampaknya kena suruh en. Abuaidan beli kat pasar banyak2..buat makan colek..buat jeruk pun jugak...aaaa... tak boleh pikir lebih2 kecur liur...:)
