Homemade kerepek ubi kayu (tapioca chips)

Assalamualaikum,

Kat sini, you won't be able get  kerepek ubi easily whether in market, supermarket or shops.. i  wonder why people here they don't make this tasty chips eventhough they plant cassava everywhere (the main food here).
since we've planted lots of yellow cassava, then one day i though of trying to make some chips out of it.
it turned out good, we introduced to some friends they like it very much. even our Fijian next door neighbour,they were surprised how we make the tasty chips.

Here are the step of making tasty kerepek ubi or tapioca/cassava chips,

1. Uproot/ cabut ubi kayu from the soil,

2.  This much we managed to get, ready for cleaning

3. Cleaning process

4. Cut into small pieces with the cutter, wash and drain.

5. Deep fry using enough oil until it become golden & crispy.

6. Or when it looks like this, then it's ready to eat.

After 2 days of Heavy Rain - the effects

 And if you were to ask them: "Who sends down water from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death'' They will surely reply: "Allah.'' Say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah!'' Nay, most of them have no sense.(29:63)

Alhamdulillah, hujan lebat dah berhenti, sun pun dah muncul balik, rain and heavy clouds started moving away from Fiji... tropical depression itulah the reason yang it was hot for the past few days and followed by heavy rain... some people started to feel frightened that flood would happen again. La Hawla Quwwata Illa Billah.

This is how our garden and veges look like after 2 days of heavy rain,

Corianders,

Silverbeets,

Pakchoi,

Small cabbages,

Corn,

Watermelon,

Cauliflower,

Apa2 pun alhamdulillah sbb masih banyak lagi yang Allah rezekikan untuk kami yang still survive.

Easy Planting - Sowing English Cabbage

The vegetation of a good land comes forth (easily) by the permission of its Lord; and that which is bad, brings forth nothing but (a little) with difficulty. Thus do We explain variously the Ayat for a people who give thanks. (7:58)

English cabbages normally take more than 4 months to matured, somehow depends on variety also. to suite the weather at your place, sow the cabbage based on the season. like here in Fiji, cooler weather will started by end of May, so if i  want to be among the earliest gardener to harvest i must plant my cabbages by February and inshaallah by Mid June, it will be ready.
 
Here my simple steps of sowing,

1. Get  fresh seeds from supermarket or nursery or any places where normally sell seeds. make sure the seed expiry date more than a year. old seeds would not grow at all or not grow well normally.

2. This is how to seeds look like,

 3. Sow the small amount of seeds (depends on yr need), in a small container, don't have cover with much soil. give some space between the seeds. watering twice a day. put the container in the place where you can get full sun.

 3. After 3 days it started to germinate,

 4. One week after,

 5. After 10 days, leaves and plants became much bigger,

 6.  By 2 weeks, another leaf formed. And now is ready for transplant.

 And if you like to have continuous supply of  cabbages without having to buy from market, keep sowing new seeds after transplant (every 2 weeks).

Rainy Day

And mention the parable of the worldly life: it is like the water which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is able to do everything. (18:45)

Weather keep changing. for 2 weeks we've been experiencing cool season, now since few days ago raining again started. and today, almost whole day raining.  

Now, this is how our garden  looks like with too much rain,

I have to put some shades on cauliflowerss, to inshallah protect them from too much water that would cause them to damaged with the will of Allah. 

 

Somehow, rain is still one of Allah greatest rahmat that we have to always express our syukur for it.
