Peralatan untuk berkebun

Assalamualaikum,

Sebut pasal berkebun pastinya kita membanyangkan kerja yang penat, angkat cangkul, buat batas, merumput, menyiram air, membaja dan sebagainya.

Realitinya kita oleh berkebun sayur especially dengan cara yang mudah, tanpa mengeluarkan penuh yang mencurah-curah dan mengambil masa berjam-jam. yang penting bila kita tahu the right method, use the right equipment, ada sikit2 info pasal sayur yang kita nak tanam, then kita dapat berkebun dengan releks.
Disini dikongsikan peralatan berkebun yang we normally use for gardening, ada yang perlu ada, ada yang tek ade pun tak per.





Cangkul or hoe - peralatan berkebun yang mesti ade, kalau takde tak bole buat kerja, tak boleh nak buat batas, nak pecah tanah pun tak boleh.

Garden fork -  juga mesti ada untuk memudahkan kerja mengcungkil dan pecah tanah (loosen soil), dengan menggunakan tangan untuk memegang dan kaki untuk menekan fork dapat mengurangkan penggunaan tenaga untuk mengcungkil tanah. kalau takde, boleh guna cangkul tapi lebih memenatkan dan tak efisien.









Kasut but or gardening boot - penting untuk keselematan dan kebersihan sewaktu dikebun, kalau musim hujan tu tak lah lumpur tuh melekat pada kaki dan kerja-kerja mencuci pulak. juga dapat membantu masa guna garden fork. takda tak apa tp masa hujan berlumpur, lecehlah.








Hand Gloves - bagus jika digunakan masa berkebun, dapat menjaga kebersihan tangan dan mengelak jangkitan fungus. takde takper, guna tangan jer.








Hand fork (optional items)- untuk memudahkan kerja-kerja menanam tanpa mengotorkan tangan, juga memudah kerja mengorek tanah untuk buat lubung bagi benih.

Jadi, bila kita memikirkan berkebun secara serious dan continuous, patutlah ada segala peralatan yang perlu supaya berkebun dapat menjadi suatu aktiviti yang menyeronokkan dan berhasil.

Information about Radish

I've planted radishes a month ago. alhamdulillah some of them are ready to harvest. and i've harvested some of them today. Radish in malay lobak merah.

Some information about radish.

• Radical and Radish both share the same root word. Radishes are the “root” of a plant, and radicals wish to change the “root” of the political system.


• The radish (Raphanus sativus) is an edible root vegetable of the Brassicaceae family that was domesticated in Europe in pre-Roman time. They are grown and consumed throughout the world. Radishes have numerous varieties, varying in size, color and duration of required cultivation time. There are some radishes that are grown for their seeds; oilseed radishes are grown, as the name implies, for oil production.



• Broadly speaking, radishes can be categorized into four main types (summer, fall, winter, and spring) and a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, such as red, pink, white, gray-black or yellow radishes, with round or elongated roots that can grow longer than a parsnip.

• The most commonly eaten portion is the napiform taproot, although the entire plant is edible and the tops can be used as a leaf vegetable.

• The bulb of the radish is usually eaten raw, although tougher specimens can be steamed. The raw flesh has a crisp texture and a pungent, peppery flavor, caused by glucosinolates and the enzyme myrosinase which combine when chewed to form allyl isothiocyanates , also present in mustard, horseradish and wasabi.


• Radishes are suggested as an alternative treatment for a variety of ailments including whooping cough, cancer, coughs, gastric discomfort, liver problems, constipation, dyspepsia, gallbladder problems, arthritis, gallstones, kidney stones and intestinal parasites.

• The seeds of the Raphanus sativus species can be pressed to extract seed oil. Wild radish seeds contain up to 48% oil content, and while not suitable for human consumption the oil is a potential source of biofuel.




 • Citizens of Oaxaca, Mexico celebrate the radish in a festival called Noche de los Rábanos (Night of the Radishes) on December 23 as a part of Christmas La Navidad celebrations. Locals carve religious and popular figures out of radishes and display them in the town square.  

• Aardvarks are allergic to radishes, but only during summer months.

Percubaan menanam Honey Dew

Assalamualaikum,

I've planted honey dew many times before, tp so far tak menjadi..most of the time sbb hujan and wrong timing. somehow sampai ada buah honey dew nih melata kat kebun, maybe i would feel better.
So that's why today i thought of tanam honey dew again.





Anyway, ini yang previously planted (the only remaining in the garden, yang lain mati sbb ujan yg byk), tuh pun kat pucuk kena dah patah maybe eaten by insect.

Nie paket benih yang dibeli, normally we used  the seeds packed by YATES. yang atas buah kuning tuh seed from untie that came from canada gave us.

This is how the seed look like. macam  benih timun tp besar sikit. try to plant small amount for the beginning.

Masa tanam seed tuh don't put too deep in the soil, just enough to cover the seed. i realised that bila kita tanam dalam sgt it will take long for the plant to come out, sometimes will not come out at all. also don't forget to watering twice a day - pagi & petang sehinggalah pokok besar. tanah yang kering tidak menggalakkan pembenihan.

Kacang Buncis or French Bean

Assalamualaikum,

The French beans or Kacang buncis i've planted 3 months ago now didn't  produce anymore  fruit. look like they are expiring.

So i removed all the plants and started to clear the garden beds so that can be used to plant another vegetable. not sure yet what to plant, perhaps cabbages or tomato or some cucumbers. we'll see.









And on the other side of the garden, i've planted some long beans, somehow after sometimes i realised that due to the weather which is not suitable for them,they didnt grow well. not even flowering.

So i've removed all the long bean plants. put some water to soften the soil in order to remake the garden bed.

Then, on 24th June when the bed ready, i've sowed some french bean seeds to replace the long beans. 

 

Now, after a week the seeds split open and new plants formed.

Carrot dah besar sikit

Assalamualaikum,

Today feel very sleepy and exhausted after 2, 3 days of berkenduri kendara. couldnt take any photo during the actual occasion since bila nak amik keta pengantin tuh tgk2 takleh on, battery totally finished. actually they used Abu Aidan's car for the bharat's car. so tak dptlah kena shutter on that day.
somehow ade hikmahnya jugak tu.

Anyway, today we just relax at home resting and sleeping and relaxing.

Checked the garden in the morning, realised that the carrots growing bigger now. never seen the plant before, so dont know much about it. somehow when an old couple came from canada during the flood to distribute some aids, they left us with some seeds of veges for planting. so we just planted it at least to appreciate.

Here how it looks like now, 3 weeks old.
