A Tour Around Natutu, Native Fijian Village

We finally arrived here ...after more than 40 minutes drive..(many times stopping for snapping photos).. felt so far away eventhough it's less than 10km from town.

View of some of their houses from outside

Some villagers resting under the tree..part of their lifestyle..

Fijian style - tie, shirt and skirt

Our tour guide Mr Viliame with Mr. Aidan

A boat lying idle..indicating that fishing is also part of their activities.

We walked pass by the Church..didn't go inside..

Lali, a traditional equipment used to call the villagers for meeting or prayer in the church..made from woods.

A man beating the Lali to call the villagers for church meeting..

Graveyard of their previous chief, buried here...

The community hall for the village

A group of Fijian women sitting together, resting after finishing the 'gotong royong' session.. they also cooked for the villagers.

Aidan with his new friends..luckily Aidan's hair straight..heheh, if not...

While women sitting inside the hall after 'gotong royong', the men resting under the trees.

A small river connected to the sea...some of them fishermen..

Traditional house called ,bure,...roof from grass, walls from woods..

The antic and almost forgotten..traditional house made from dried grass tied together with mangrove vines..(purely grass)..able to protect from rain and hot sun..can last up to 10 years..

Another traditional house.........100% made from grass.roof and walls

Their sitting hut, damaged by the flood in the beginning of the year...

Looks like a family  is getting ready to go to somewhere..with their bag packed..

It's getting dark, we left the village half an hour before 7.00pm..

We had a good time..good tour around the village..new experience for me which i always look forward to it (to see the native people's land). All the villagers were very friendly.. happy go lucky and easy to talk to..just speak English with them..most of them know eventhough they stay in a very rural area. Don't forget to say Bula (hello) when you meet them and Vinaka (thank u )for their favor..
...Moce ( goodbye) Natutu village

  1. Interesting ummu. Kakak read with full of smile. It seems like our kampung here. Wondering they have Lali to call the community but we here those days used 'beduk' to call our community for pray.

Nice photos captured especially their traditional living style.

  10. As salam ummu,
Mula2 saya ingat kat bawah wakaf dpn gereja tu keranda lama. Rupanya alat bunyian spt beduk. Biasanya mereka guna loceng utk menandakan waktu ibadat kn.

    1. Mcm keranda ker..heheh..agaknya itu adalah alat tradisi kaum kan..bukannya ikut kebiasaan penganut kristian guna loceng..
